One of the most heart-warming business success stories at present is the phenomenal rise of the Rastafarian musician, Levi Roots. Singer, writer, producer, record lable owner, dj/mc, and entrepreneur, Levi Roots first found fame in the UK as singer/dj/mc for the great Sir Coxsone Sound. Levi Roots recorded his debut single in 1981 - produced by the legendary Lloyd Coxsone. 'Poorman Story' was an instant hit with roots and culture fans. Levi Roots formed the band, MATIC16, who were signed by Jimmy Lindsey's Music Hive, and recorded the classic steppers anthem, 'Jahovah'. Later, they recorded 'No Money Today' for producer Peter Richards' Regent Record label. Levi's solo career kicked off with a trip to Jamaica where he met and formed links with Philip Fatis Burrel. A session with the great Sly and Robbie followed and 'It Ah Fi Burn' (7" Soundbox) and 'Shashamane City' (on the CD 'Free Your Mind' - Soundbox) were the results. Even with a budding musical career, Levi Roots still found time to make his jerk sauce - based on his Grandmother's recipe. In January 2007 Levi was invited on to the BBC show Dragons' Den. After wooing them with song, he presented his Reggae Reggae Sauce. The phenomenal results of that show are now recorded in history as Levi Roots' second rise to fame in the UK. Levi Roots is currently working on his new album with legendary producer, The Mad Professor, and he is compiling 'The Best of Levi Roots' with Jet Star Records. For now though, Levi is concentrating on promoting Reggae Reggae Sauce along with his cookery book. Read More about Levi Roots >> |
